Grafting

Grafting names the garden practice of reconnecting a growth to the support it actually traces, rather than the support it claimed or appeared to have.

Grafting is needed where a read has life but is attached to the wrong support. It does not make the read true by relocation. It tests whether the read can survive when placed where its trace actually returns.

Places

Grafting places the garden practice of reconnecting a growth to the support it actually traces.

Holds

Grafting is held by Garden Pass, Dependency Order, and Trace. A tending pass must locate the growth, dependency order must distinguish real support from apparent support, and trace must make the return path followable.

Pairs

No lateral pair is required. Grafting is a care action inside Garden Pass.

Traces

Nests

Grafting nests inside Atlas Garden wherever a growth may live if reconnected to the condition that actually holds it.

Reads

Grafting becomes recognisable where a misplaced growth is not discarded but reattached to a support it can retrace.

The grafting question is:

Does this growth have a living trace?
Where does the trace actually return?
What claimed support should be removed?
What support can receive it without forcing the order?

Carries

No downstream carries are claimed yet.
