Read names recognition of meaningful distinction. Where trace names the path through which distinction becomes followable, read names the condition through which that distinction is understood as meaningful within the current scope of evaluation. Read does not require final determination, closure, or resolution — a trace may exist before it is read, and a read may widen or recur without exhausting the trace.
