Thing names a scale-local stability of relation: held together by smaller relations, participating in larger relations, and readable at the scale where it can be named, used, or carried.

A thing-read can drift where a relation compressed into a noun is treated as if the noun must contain the whole referent. The dropped conditions were dropped from the description, not from reality. The repair is not to hunt for a hidden object inside the noun, but to reopen the relation, scale, and closure scope that made the thing readable.

The identity of a thing is therefore relative in the structural sense: not arbitrary, but placed through the relations that compose it, the relations it participates in, and the closure scope where it is being read.

When relation is nominalized, this carrying can become hidden. Re-entering the thing-read means asking what relation, scale, and closure scope the name has compressed. Relative keeps the object-read answerable to the relation and scope that placed it.
