Read and Effect
Read and Effect names the distinction between how a condition becomes recognisable, what follows from a condition operating, and the traced account through which an effect becomes explainable.
A read names how a condition becomes recognisable; an effect names what follows from that condition; cause-read is the traced account through which an effect becomes explainable.
Read is not Effect. Read names recognisable presentation within a scope. Effect names a carried consequence: what follows when a condition operates through coupling, carrying, or contact. Cause is not the same as either read or effect, and it is not a first-order acting thing. Cause remains subordinate to Trace: it is a cause-read assigned after an effect is traced back through the carrying conditions that make it explainable.
The working order is:
Condition -> Read -> Effect -> Trace -> Cause-read.
This is a review order for avoiding false causality, not a claim that Trace begins only after Effect. Structurally, trace still makes read possible; after an effect is recognised, trace is followed again to form a cause-read.
A common error is treating a read as an acting force. This produces false causality, especially where the read is negative: shade, darkness, disorder, silence, absence, or other loss-reads can be mistaken for positive causes acting by themselves.
Places
Read and Effect places the distinction between recognisability, consequence, trace, and cause-read.
Holds
Read and Effect is held by Read, Effect, and Trace. A condition must be recognisable, its consequence distinguishable, and the path back through carrying conditions traceable before a cause-read can be assigned.
Pairs
Read and Effect pairs with false causality: the error of treating a read as if it were an acting force.
Traces
Nests
Read and Effect nests inside second-order distinction work, where recognisable presentation, carried consequence, trace, and cause-read must not collapse into one another.
Reads
Read and Effect becomes recognisable where a recognisable condition, a following change, and the traced account through which that change becomes explainable are being confused or need to be kept separate.
Structural Protection
This distinction protects against a common drift:
Read -> mistaken for thing -> mistaken for cause.
Shade may be treated as causing cooling. In the cleaner read, shade is the read, cooling may be the effect, and reduced light or heat input is the causal trace.
Darkness may be treated as acting. In the cleaner read, darkness is the read of absent light, not a force acting by itself.
Disorder may be treated as a force. In the cleaner read, disorder is the read of order no longer being held.
Silence may be treated as empty non-relation. In the cleaner read, silence is the read of absent or ceased sound or contact within a scope where that absence can become recognisable.
Entropy may be treated as disorder acting. In the cleaner read, entropy measures relaxation or dispersion of held order; the cause-read belongs to the traced carrying conditions through which that relaxation or dispersion occurs.
