Reasoning
Reasoning names the practice of carrying a read through traceable order so that a claim, action, read, or continuation remains answerable to what holds it.
A reason is traceable support. It is not only an explanation given after the fact. A reason lets a continuation remain answerable because the support can be followed back through what holds it.
Reasoning is therefore not proof alone, logic alone, argument alone, explanation alone, or justification alone. It is the live practice of staying with relation as it enters order: read what is present, trace what holds it, carry only what can remain answerable, and check where the carrying stops.
Historically, reason has carried senses of account, reckoning, ground, motive, cause, explanation, proportion, and support. The Atlas reduces that field to its structural role: a reason is support that can be retraced. Reasoning is the practice that carries through such support without losing the path back to what holds.
This keeps reasoning ordinary. To reason is not to float above life into abstraction. It is to keep a continuation answerable: why this read, from what support, through which order, and with what return path.
The Atlas preserves reasoning by making its support structure explicit. A term is not accepted because it sounds coherent. It must show where it places, what holds it, where it traces, how it reads, and what it carries.
Places
Reasoning places the practice of carrying a read through traceable order so that a claim, action, read, or continuation remains answerable to what holds it.
Holds
Reasoning is held by Read, Trace, Practice, Order Trace, and Check. A meaningful distinction must be read, trace must remain available, practice must keep return possible, order trace must make the movement followable, and check must keep the continuation answerable.
Pairs
Reasoning pairs with mere explanation. Reasoning carries a read through traceable order; mere explanation can describe a result without preserving the support that made the result answerable.

Nests
Reasoning nests inside Atlas Practice as the ordinary practice the Atlas preserves, exposes, and tends.
Reads
Reasoning becomes recognisable where a participant follows what holds a read, carries only what can remain answerable, and can return through the dependency path without turning the reason into a detached justification.
It is also visible where a reason fails: the explanation may remain fluent, but the support cannot be retraced, the carry exceeds what holds it, or the check exposes a boundary the continuation crossed without permission from the order.
Reasoning also becomes recognisable where old senses of reason are kept structurally clean:
account what can be given
reckoning what can be counted or weighed
ground what support is acknowledged
motive what carries action forward
cause-read what becomes explainable after trace
support what lets continuation remain answerable
The Atlas does not collapse these into one meaning. It keeps their shared structural demand: each must remain traceable to what holds it.
