Step
Step names the smallest answerable movement opened by a read. Where Read makes a traced distinction meaningful, Step names the nearest placed movement through which the read is carried without exceeding what the trace supports.
Step is not progress, completion, or carrying after the fact. It is carrying made local as movement: the first placed movement by which a read enters practice while remaining answerable to dependency.
